You’ve been playing games your entire life. You know what you look for, and you know what you like.
Well, you think you do.
The games industry reinvents itself every few years, and when our team plays through a new assortment of games purely to educate ourselves on the new trends and innovations in gaming, we often find ourselves falling in love with new types of games. In many cases, these are games that we thought weren’t for us when we read the summary or watched the trailer. But once we actually played them, we had a blast.
With our work as a studio spanning several genres–though we primarily work in pinball and RPGs–we often have these same kinds of interactions with players. Pinball fans discover that they can enjoy an RPG, and traditional gamers discover that modern pinball is much different from what they remember playing as kids.
With the Steam Autumn sale in full swing and the Thanksgiving holiday around the corner for our U.S. friends, now is a great time to try a new kind of game. Here are some recommendations from the Zen library:
Our amazing community made this game really special. While we’re proud of the skill and finesse we built into this putt-putt experience, players blew us away with their creativity in building and sharing new courses. Whether you like a low-key but still high-skill gameplay experience or whether you love a unique creative mode, Infinite Mini Golf is a great escape no matter what kinds of games you usually play.
Earlier this year we released the VR update for Operencia, a free upgrade for players new and old. We can’t say for sure, but we are fairly certain that this is one of the first full-length RPG experiences available in VR, so even if you typically don’t seek out turn-based combat, the beautiful world and accessible mechanics make this a fun experience for RPG and non-RPG fans alike.
Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and Ahsoka Tano?! Star Wars Pinball gives you another way to experience the Star Wars universe via video games. If you’ve been away from the pinball scene for a while, this is a great way to explore the innovations we’ve brought to the genre. You will recognize the basic pinball mechanics, but this is an entirely new world realized through the lens of pinball, complete with dynamic characters, secrets to discover, and it has that satisfying feeling that comes from a game that is easy to pick up but difficult to master.
Everyone was kung fu fighting, and the dancing was very exciting! This title is a bit of a throwback as far as our library goes, but the option to use your own music as the basis for gameplay has kept players coming back and can give you a fresh way to explore your music collection, even if you don’t typically play rhythm games. If you are already fan of rhythm games, the combat twist we introduced here makes this title a departure from the DDR and Guitar Hero clones out there.
The tactical RPG genre is filled with amazing titles, so we knew we had to do something different when we set out to design Dread Nautical. This game features a cast of memorable characters, a different approach to the classic RPG settings, and mixes Lovecraftian elements with Roguelike elements to create an immersive gameplay loop. Dread Nautical is a great way to test the waters of tactical RPGs while also representing a different twist on what makes the genre compelling to longtime fans.
If you discover a new favorite in our library, we’d love to hear about it!
